this was possibly the first entry in my visual journal on one of my very first 'Tuesdays with Jo'. at the time she was very unwell but still seemed to enjoy hanging out with me in her studio (on the back verandah of her mum's place) chatting, listening to Mozart and painting for short periods of time. i am so grateful for the brief time i shared with this incredible woman who through her generous being taught me so much about friendship, trusting the process and letting go. it was Jo & Em that encouraged me to keep an journal, i remember seeing their collection of journals spines boasting dates from the many years of practice...i remember thinking...one day i will have a collection like that!
my first encounter with Jenny Saville's work was at Mona in 2013. Jo had said that i would most probably like her work, but i had no idea of the emotional impact it would command when i rounded the corner and came face to face with Matrix. this journal entry was done in the gallery and is a montage of several other artworks on show at the time.
